How to Find Your Purpose & Have More Clarity In Life

If you ever feel stuck, lost, or lacking motivation, gaining clarity is the first step.

If you ever feel stuck, lost, or lacking motivation, gaining clarity is the first step.

Studies in cognitive psychology show that clarity of thought and emotional awareness are critical for effective decision-making, which in turn impacts success in personal and professional settings (Schwartz, B. (2004)).

I know for me, growing up, I was constantly doing things that I thought were either the “right” things to pursue or would lead to some sense of happiness - I accomplished a lot, but never quite felt at peace, or confident about the path I was on.

I told you a couple of weeks ago about how my traveling pushed me to dive deep into my own personal development journey.

And in 2019, I invested in a mentorship program where I was introduced to something called ‘Prophetic Past Tense’ journalling.

This is a journalling exercise where you write a future journal entry as if your goals have already happened.

So I wrote a journal entry dated 5 years into the future. Detailing how I spent every hour of my dream day.

This was a massive turning point for me in really gaining clarity on how I actually wanted to live my life. 💡

It also enhanced my focus and motivation towards achieving my goals.

Funny enough, 2019 was just about 5 years ago - And all of those things I wanted to have in my life at that time, I do today.

So I've seen the impact intentionally developing more clarity can have in my life and the life of those that I’ve worked with.

Today I’m going to give you guys 4 steps to maximize the clarity you have in your life.

But first, I want to open with a question to frame all of this, which was the same question that was the catalyst for me: How Do You Want To Spend Your Time?

Here Are 4 Steps To Developing Powerful Clarity In Your Life:

1️⃣ Clarify Your Purpose:

Start by identifying your values, what you stand for, and what you want your life to represent.

I found a YouTube video that offered an effective exercise for clarifying your purpose through five questions:

  1. Who you are

  2. What you feel qualified to help others with

  3. Who you do it for

  4. What they want or need

  5. How they change when they get it.

Then you piece it together in a way that resonates.

For example: I, Marc, help those aiming to be their best selves live empowered, productive, and fulfilled lives - by coaching them on systems and habits.

2️⃣ Know What You Want:

Not just knowing what you want, but also understanding what you don't want, is crucial.

Narrow this to at least four categories: health, relationships, experiences, and career/finances.

Your ideal life begins in your mind… it’s like when you get a new car and you start noticing that car everywhere.

That’s because your reticular activation system has been activated. The part of your brain that’s always taking in information.

So doing an exercise like ‘Prophetic Past Tense’ journalling can be a great way to prime your mind.

3️⃣ Know Why You Want It:

The brain sets the direction, but the heart is the engine - So get clear on the emotional states associated with what you want.

For example, The heart doesn’t understand “money”, but does understand emotions like peace or security.

This is also why daily visualization can be so impactful.

Science shows that visualization has a measurable impact on our brain chemistry and helps overcome negativity and distractions.

4️⃣ Know What’s Happening and If It's Working:

Intelligence can be defined as sensory acuity - being able to discern subtle differences.

So intend to be intelligent about your life - Keep assessing the effectiveness of your actions and strategies towards achieving your goals.

In Conclusion…

Clarity is the first step to making positive changes in any area of your life.

This might take some time to journal and reflect, but the benefits are worth it.

At this point in my life, I do some type of clarity exercise weekly.

Next week we will move into the next Pillar of the Purpose-Driven Profit Model, Alignment.

Be Blessed,
